About us

The Corporation

The Seychelles Public Transport Corporation, mostly referred by its acronym SPTC, is a parastatal organization in the Republic of Seychelles mandated to provide public transportation which it is currently operating using buses.

Established in December 1977 as a body corporate under the Seychelles Public Transport Corporation Decree, CAP 221, its primary function by Decree is:

“THE CORPORATION SHALL EXERCISE ITS POWERS SO AS TO PROVIDE, OR SECURE OR PROMOTE THE PROVISION OF AN EFFICIENT, ADEQUATE, AND ECONOMICAL SYSTEM OF PUBLIC TRANSPORT WITHIN SEYCHELLES FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC, CONSISTENT WITH A REASONABLE AND ADEQUATE LEVEL OF FARES BEING CHARGED.” SECTION 15 (1)

The Seychelles is an archipelago of 115 islands of varying sizes separated into two areas, the inner granitic islands and the outer coralline islands. The three biggest islands of Mahe, Praslin and La Digue are the more densely populated with minimal or no one living on the other islands. SPTC currently operates routes on the two main islands of Mahe and Praslin as the other islands do not have the road systems and population that would support the need for a bus service.

The advantages of being the sole provider of a country-wide bus fleet endorsed by government was capitalized through diversification of services.
